Boys Freshman Football
--WEEK STARTING August 21-- Come in at 2:30 (or earlier). We're on the field at 2:45 and will then join the Varsity around 3:45. Thursday, August 24: Scrimmage at McLean. Report at 2:30; scrimmage starts at 5:30; return at approximately 7:30-8:00 pm. Friday, August 25: Report at 2:30. Bring in the money from the cards you've sold. You are responsible for all unsold cards. --WEEK STARTING August 28 (School begins)-- School days end at 2:55 pm. . . .make sure you're on the field by 3:30. Scrimmage home vs. Madison on Wednesday, August 30. Report to locker room right after school. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, LABOR DAY: Unusual practice time: 8:00 am. We have our first game two days later, so it is important that you make this practice.
All freshman football players should report tomorrow, Tuesday, August 8, a little early, at 1:45 pm. They will be conducted to a computer lab to take the concussion baseline test, after which they will practice until about 5:30 pm. On Thursday, August 10, they will have a team picture. They received picture forms today (Monday, August 7); they should bring these completed forms to the field. They can order individual shots along with the team photo if they choose. Reminder: Players need to purchase cleats and a five-pad girdle. The girdle is available for $38 from the coaches--make checks out to "Fairfax High School."
Tuesday, August 8--no pads. This practice is the first of many where we will practice with Varsity. Here's how it will normally go: 2:00 pm. Report to locker room. We will continue to deal with paperwork, equipment, etc. 2:30 pm. Proceed to freshman practice field for drills and exercises. 3:15 pm. Move to game field to practice with varsity. Here we will rotate. When varsity is working on offense, freshman offensive coaches will join them, while varsity defensive coaches will come over to work with freshmen and the freshmen defensive coaches. After 50 minutes or so, there will be a brief period of special teams work, then the coaches will all switch--offensive coaches to freshmen, defensive coaches to varsity. At approximately 5:30, practice will end for freshmen, since they started on the field before varsity. NOTE: This schedule will be standard on days we can meet with varsity. On days when varsity competes, we're on our own. Once school starts, we can be together Mondays and Tuesdays of a normal week. Wednesday, August 9--same as Tuesday. Thursday, August 10--same as Tuesday, with upper pads. Friday, August 11--Report at 2 pm, possibly with full pads, depending on weather and the pace of equipment handout. Practice will be freshmen only, since varsity/JV has a home scrimmage with Stuart at 6 pm. Saturday, August 12--We usually don't practice on Saturdays, but that is always at coaches' discretion; we will provide plenty of advance notice if we have to go on Saturday. Only one Saturday practice is certain at this point: Saturday, September 16, because our Annandale game is on an unusual day, Tuesday, September 19, and we need the extra prep day.

Report to locker room between 2 and 2:30 pm. You should have three completed paperwork items: a VHSL physical, an emergency care form, and a certificate that you and your parent(s) have taken the Concussion Education course. (Download from www.fcps.edu/Sports.) You will need to purchase two items of equipment: a pair of cleats and a five-pad girdle. You can buy the girdle from the coaches for $38, or get one at a sporting goods store. We will be busy with organizing: issuing lockers/combinations, collecting paperwork and email addressses, issuing equipment, taking the concussion baseline test--these activities will continue all week. Afterwards, we proceed to the freshman practice field for some basic drills and exercises. Practice will end at approximately 5:30 pm.
